Cotton pad factory planning guide

How to Plan a Cotton Pad Factory

A practical plan for a new cotton pad factory: what to define before you buy, how to lay out the floor, which utilities to prepare and how to ramp up production with the KNK-310.
  • 7 project stages, in the right order
  • Reserve at least 7 × 4 m per line
  • AC 380V power, 0.6–0.8 MPa air
  • Free 2D/3D layout from KNK engineers

Seven project stages

Build the project in the right order

Start with the product and the market, not the machine. Each stage ends with a document you can show to partners, investors and suppliers.

  1. Define the product and the market

Round, square, oval, lock-edge and wet compress pads can need different materials, tooling and quality criteria.

    • Dimensioned drawing and reference sample
    • Material, basis weight, layers and roll format
    • Embossing, edge, count and packaging
    • Destination markets and product claims

    Deliverable: approved product specification

  2. Test the commercial case

Capacity is not sales. Model demand, price, materials, labor, utilities, packaging, logistics and working capital.

    • Customer pipeline and realistic monthly demand
    • SKU mix, order size and changeovers
    • Margin and cash-flow assumptions
    • Payback at different utilization and prices

Deliverable: business case with sensitivity analysis

  3. Choose the process and equipment scope

Decide what is automated now, what stays manual and what can be added later.

    • Machine configuration and product range
    • Molds and changeover method
    • Saleable output under trial conditions
    • Manual packing or packaging automation

Deliverable: signed technical scope and equipment list

  4. Plan the facility and material flow

Design around hygiene, utilities, safety, maintenance and forklift logistics, with qualified local specialists.

    • Raw material, production, packing and dispatch flow
    • Floor, power, compressed air and environment
    • Guarding, emergency routes and maintenance access
    • Waste handling, cleaning and pest control

Deliverable: approved layout and utility schedule

  5. Map compliance and quality obligations

Product rules, machine conformity, management systems and site audits are separate. One certificate does not cover all of them.

    • Product standards, labeling and market access
    • Machine conformity and technical files
    • Quality certificate holder and scope
    • Customer social-audit requirements

Deliverable: compliance matrix with owners and dates

  6. Agree factory acceptance, training and support

Turn promises into measurable acceptance criteria before the machine ships.

    • Trial material, drawing and approved sample
    • Test duration, speed range and sampling
    • Acceptance criteria and allowed variation
    • Manuals, training, warranty and spare parts

Deliverable: approved FAT and delivery-document plan

  7. Ramp up production under control

Start with controlled batches and scale on data, not on rated speed.

    • Incoming material and first-article approval
    • Process settings, sampling and traceability
    • Operator training and preventive maintenance
    • Output, yield and defect review before scale-up

Deliverable: stable operating window and ramp-up plan

Before you order equipment

Eight things to confirm first

Send KNK these answers and we can propose an exact machine configuration, tooling list and layout.

Product

Product specification

Diameter or size, lock-edge type, embossing pattern, layers and thickness.

Capacity

Target output

Saleable pcs per day, shift pattern and expected changeovers, not just rated speed.

Demand

Who will buy it

Realistic customers, volumes, prices and their qualification requirements.

Site

Factory conditions

Floor space, stable AC 380V 50Hz power, compressed air, staffing and maintenance access.

Packing

Packaging method

Pack count, bag type, labels and whether packaging automation will follow.

Tooling

Molds

Each shape and size needs its own embossing, lock-edge and cutting rollers.

Yield

Waste handling

Round pads leave edge and skeleton waste. Plan collection and reuse from day one.

Cash

Full project budget

Machine, tooling, shipping, installation, materials, working capital and ramp-up.

Factory layout

A proven layout for one KNK-310 line

Material moves in one direction, from roll staging to dispatch, so forklifts, operators and maintenance never cross paths.

  1. Raw material staging
  2. Splicing and feeding
  3. KNK-310 main unit
  4. Manual packing station
  5. Finished goods dispatch

Footprint

At least 7 × 4 m per line

The main machine measures 4950 × 1210 × 1700 mm. Reserve at least 7 × 4 m for safe roll loading, packing and maintenance access.

Utilities

Power and compressed air

Stable AC 380V supply with panels away from traffic, and overhead piping for 0.6–0.8 MPa compressed air that stays clear of forklift routes.

Environment

A clean, separated zone

A cleanroom is optional, but a separated, ventilated and dust-controlled processing area makes customer and SMETA audits much easier.

Recommended machine

KNK-310 at a glance

Start with a semi-automatic setup: the KNK-310 automates forming, cutting, counting and stacking, while final packing stays manual until your volumes and pack formats are proven.

Machine typeHot-melt cotton pad die-cutting machine
Material widthUp to 310 mm
OutputUp to 2,000 pcs/min on the latest model (previous model up to 1,500 pcs/min)
Core functionsUnwinding, embossing, hot-melt lamination, lock-edge forming, die cutting, counting, staggered output
ProductsRound, square and embossed multilayer cosmetic cotton pads
Main machine size4950 × 1210 × 1700 mm
UtilitiesAC 380V 50Hz, compressed air 0.6–0.8 MPa
OperatorsFrom 2, depending on speed and packing method

Documents

Know what each document proves

Check the legal entity, site, product, machine model, scope and validity behind every certificate you are shown.

Product

Market requirements

Material, intended use, claims, labeling, hygiene, testing and traceability in your destination market.

Machine

CE conformity

Covers the identified machine model and configuration under the relevant requirements.

Management system

ISO certification

Check the certificate holder, standard, certified activities, issuing body and validity.

Site audit

SMETA

An audit of a named site. It is not a product certificate or a general company approval.
